Craig Caldwell, an artist and designer from Cape Cod, has been named Massachusetts Policy Coordinator for Stripers Forever, the internet-based organization which advocates game fish status for the wild striped bass.
In his new position, Caldwell will head up efforts in Massachusetts to create and pass legislation to eliminate the commercial harvest of striped bass in Commonwealth waters so the resource can be managed for recreational fishermen. In-depth studies by Southwick Associates, nationally recognized experts in socio-economics, show that taking the price off the head of the striper would yield the greatest financial and social benefits for the largest number of people in Massachusetts.
Caldwell is a native of Tennessee. After graduating from Harvard College in 1986 and studying at the University of Newcastle in Australia as a Rotary Fellow, he launched a successful career as a consultant in environmental graphic design and identity management. In 2000, Caldwell formed Herring River Studio and began executing a series of fish portraits using traditional oil painting techniques. An avid angler, Caldwell’s concentration on fine art allows him to devote more time to the conservation of striped bass.
