Brigantine fishing closure
Stripers Forever has been asked by one of our members to spread the word about a proposed ordinance to ban fishing along sections of Brigantine Inlet.  This is not SF's main mission, but we certainly support the concepts of recreational fishing and don't feel it fair to eliminate this historic activity to favor other uses.  Please read the following and let officials in Brigantine know how you feel.  We included NY and PA to this list since we know the Jersey shore is common fishing destination for many of you.  Brad Burns   read below

Anti- fisherman sentiments brewing in Brigantine

It seems like Brigantine wants to challange Absecon as least fisherman friendly city in New Jersey. Maybe this will shed some light as to exactly why it is important to keep water access open and equitable for all users.
It seems like the surfers rule in Brigantine and the Soccer moms who don't like traffic on Faunce Landing Road control us here. I hope we have some input from those in the know to keep us updated.
City of Brigantine Ordinance 19 of 2003. An ordinance of the city of Brigantine amending Section 105-30b (2) of the code of the city of Brigantine. Section 105-30b (2) of the code of the city of Brigantine shall be modified by adding the following language which states: There shall be no fishing, casting or surf fishing in or about the south end jetty area from any beach north of the south end jetty. The purpose of this ordinance is to limit fishing from the beach in this area to the area south and/or west of the south end jetty and to further prohibit fishing from the beach in this area from any beach designated as a surfing, kayak beach, bathing beach or sailing/catamaran beach. Notice is hereby given that the foregoing was introduced and passed a first reading by the city council at a meeting held on Sept 17.2003. Notice is further given that Ordinance No 19 of 2003 will be considered for final passage at a meeting of the city council to be held on Oct 1.2003 at 5:30 pm, Council Chambers 1417 west Brigantine Ave, Brigantine NJ at which time and place opportunity will be given for a public hearing on said ordinance.
OK guys it's time to act. This tells me many things. First of all they had no legal reason to keep us off the beach all summer. Second, they are trying to keep us off the beach completely. ALL beaches between the South Jetty and the North are designated either a swimming, kayak or surfing beach and if they want to enforce the letter of the law we lose our beaches completely except for the North end when the Plovers allow us to fish. It's time to find out exactly who and what in behind this and make our voices heard.

P.S.  If anyone can supply us with a list of the town councilor's a names and addresses as well as phone numbers we'll be happy to broadcast that too.
