Stripers Forever - this is third year in a row that the Saltwater Edge has offered to donate some of the proceeds from its conservation raffle to help the efforts of Stripers Forever. The 7th Annual SWE Fishing Fair & Conservation Raffle

Join us Saturday February 18th for our annual event that includes fly tying and plug making demonstrations, educational seminars and great raffle prizes. Learn innovative tying and lure making techniques from some of the masters of the striper coast. Attend educational seminars that will include an eye opening primer on saltwater baitfish, a “how to” fish soft plastics and bluefin tuna fly rod tactics.
The Conservation Raffle has raised over $10,000 since it’s inception for a variety of fisheries and coastal access advocacy groups. Raffle Ticket buyers can direct their proceeds to support an Economic Impact Study of Recreational Fishing in Rhode Island conducted by Ninigret Partners and sponsored by Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association or the Southwick Study which will gather the data to assess the social and economic benefits of personal use/recreational fishing for wild striped bass. The study is sponsored by Stripers Forever. Admission is free and you are
strongly encouraged to buy raffle tickets.

Tiers and Presenters scheduled to appear:
Kenny Abrames: Artist, lecturer, fly designer and author of “Striper Moon” and “A Perfect Fish”. Kenny has a deep understanding of striped bass and what makes them eat. His innovative designs catch fish when others don’t.
Mark and Carol Archambault: A lifelong coastal naturalist Mark is a wealth of information about baitfish and their habits. Their collection of aquatic photography will astound you.
Dave Fontaine: Custom rod builder for the Saltwater Edge. Come check out examples of his incredible work or place an order for new custom stick. See the difference experience, quality, and artistry makes.
Captain Al Anderson: An Ocean State legend, offshore expert, IGFA Representative and the ALS striper tagging champ. Skipper of the Prowler out of Snug Harbor, RI
Captain Craig Cantelmo: Montauk guide and Van Staal representative. If you have questions about the only reel specifically built for the surf he’s the man to talk to.
Alan Caolo: Author of two books and designer of flies to fool shallow water stripers. Alan’s “Sight Fishing for Striped Bass” is a very helpful guide to stalking the flats.
Armand Courchaine: A wealth of knowledge and an enthusiastic teacher.
Joe Cordeiro: Excellent tier and teacher. Ties presentation flies for Orvis and draws a crowd wherever he sets down his vice.
Deb Duran: A talented tier of both fresh and saltwater patterns. Director of UFT –RI and RI DEM’s Fly Tying Instructor.
Captain Jim Ellis: A skilled tier and excellent guide specializing in flats fishing for stripers on the Barnstable flats. Check out the Angel Hair Zonker.
Steve Farrar: They don’t get any more creative than this talented New Jersey tier. For years Steve has pushed the envelope for design and realism with synthetics. Watch a fertile fly tying mind at work.
Don Guimelli: After Hours Plugs from Barrington, RI are quickly earning a reputation for workmanship and effectiveness. Check out the Spookster.
John Haberek: For over a decade Hab’s Needle have been the plug to beat for big bass. Iron Mike’s 60 and 51.5 both fell to the Needle Plug. John has developed other models that are similarly effective.
Joe Martins: Joe has reproduced a number of classic, metal saltwater fishing lures that first appeared on the RI surf scene in the late 1940's. Many of these deadly designs have been out of the spotlight for some time. A Rhody classic.
Steve McKenna: Steve is a very well respected shore angler. He has developed effective techniques to rig and fish Sluggo’s as an alternative to live eels.
Rich Murphy: Umpqua pro tier who has engineered a number of innovative designs including the use of a “spreader” to create bulk without weight in large flies. He often blends naturals and synthetics to create durable yet alive fly.
Masahito Sato: An innovator from Japan who is learning the Northeast fishery. Masahito ties very realistic creations. Featured in Fly Fisherman’s Hot Flies.
Joel Swan: On The Water’s Kayak Fishing columnist. Joel has tremendous experience and pictures taking full advantage of the fishing access provided by using a kayak.
Captain Eric Thomas: Owner of Teezer Guide Service. A commercial tier of Rhody Classics as well as his own designs. A great instructor.
Dennis Zambrotta: A veteran of the Newport and Block Island surf and wealth of surfcasting knowledge and history.
