Important Announcement for Southern New England Fishermen
The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association (RISAA) has shown its support for Stripers Forever by contributing $1,000.00 to help fund the upcoming Southwick Study.
RISAA is an excellent organization with a lot of clout. In addition to its own membership -- more than 5,000 recreational anglers and 24 affiliated clubs -- RISAA does a great job representing the broad interests of all saltwater anglers in Rhode Island. We are delighted to have their support in funding the Southwick Study.
Commissioned by Stripers Forever and currently being prepared by Southwick Associates, a highly respected American statistical research firm specializing in outdoor recreation, the study will explain why the social and economic benefits of personal use/recreational fishing for wild striped bass far outweigh the limited seasonal value of the commercial fishery. The Southwick Study will also show how the striped bass aquaculture industry can very quickly replace commercially harvested wild stripers in the marketplace without any harm to the marine resource.
Stripers Forever plans to widely disseminate the results of the Southwick Study to anglers, fishery managers, state and federal lawmakers, conservation organizations, and the media up and down the Atlantic coast. The names of major supporters like RISAA who made the study possible will be listed prominently in the document.
So, Stripers Forever salutes RISAA for its support of the Southwick Study and for generously donating booth space at the New England Saltwater Fishing Show sponsored by RISAA. The show will be held in Providence, on April 1-3, 2005. We look forward to seeing you there!
