Three very disturbing bills have been introduced into the CT legislature for 2009.  These include a bill to legalize commercial striped bass fishing, allow gaffing and spearing of striped bass, and a bill to allow recreational spear fishing of striped bass.  Links to the legislation and the contact information for the legislators who sponsored these bills are attached.

SF has sent the attached letter to Representative Richard Roy of Milford asking him to drop this legislation and to ask the sponsors of the companion bills to do the same.  We are also in the process of contacting the other legislators and rallying our members to voice their opposition to this legislation.  We urge you to contact these legislators yourself and to voice very strongly your opposition to unraveling the conservation measures for striped bass that have long been provided by the state of CT.
