Stripers Forever - A number of our members have written letters to officials in Massachusetts in support of striped bass game fish. In some cases they have referred to our Southwick Study that shows the superior social and economic values that managing stripers as game fish would provide for Massachusetts.
Paul Diodati, the Director of the state's Division of Marine Fisheries has responded to some of these letters. The replies that we have seen from Mr. Diodati are essentially the same, and articulate his personal viewpoints on the topic. We've just added Mr. Diodati's letter with our rebuttal points interjected, as the attached Word document "Diodati Response".You can open and read it or print it out if you wish.
If you owe Mr. Diodati a return letter, feel free to use our points in your reply. If you are planning on writing him or other political representatives, you might preemptively include some of these points in your letter.
Striped bass should be game fish everywhere. The social and economic value, and the conservation gains that would be achieved by managing stripers for a quality personal-use fishery are undeniable. Let your voice be heard. All the contact information you need to send your views to Governor Romney or to other elected and/or appointed officials can be found on our website.
