Stripers Forever - Stocks Never Recover?

He has been writing great stuff about fisheries issues for many years and he is a real champion for the interests of recreational anglers. In his story Some Stocks May Never Recover, Al reports on some recent science that bears out what many of us have suspected and feared. Current fisheries management shortcomings may not only be causing low fish populations - or as with stripers, ones that are unbalanced in terms of age structure - but may also be responsible for dramatic changes for the worse in the overall ecology of the ocean. Once a predator is replaced in the pecking order because of diminished numbers, it may never be able to regain its former position.
