Stripers Forever -
Why are some efforts to change public policy successful and others not?  A recent study of saltwater conservation efforts determined that the advocacy organizations involved must get far more deeply involved in electoral politics to affect changes. This means that we need to state our case for striped bass gamefish to Congressional candidates, both incumbents and challengers, before the election and ask for their commitment to support striped bass gamefish and specifically, HR 1286.

The letter that we are sending to all incumbent House of Representative members from Maine to South Carolina is attached for your information.  Most of the incumbents are running for reelection this Fall.  We’ll send the letter to them by e-mail and “snail mail”.  Please do not send this letter to your congressperson.  They should only receive it once as our organization's request.  As we get their replies back, we will post them on our website in the section reserved for each state.  We will also send a summary bulletin to each state’s membership list so that you will be sure to know where these politicians stand when it comes time for you to cast your vote.  If you are not already a member please join.  It is free, and your e-mail address remains confidential if you check that off.

We don’t have the resources, however, to identify who the challengers are in each state.  We need the help of any and all interested members in each coastal state to supply us the names, mailing addresses, and if possible, e-mail addresses for the Congressional challengers who will appear on the ballot for your congressional district.  If we receive that information we will query them just as we are the incumbents.  I know from personal experience that this is the time to get a promise of support from these individuals.
