Stripers Forever - Called the flesh eating bacteria, and fish handler's disease, infections from this stuff are deadly to fish and extremely serious to humans who touch them under the right conditions. A friend of mine from Maryland told me that a commercial fisherman there recently had his arm "cut to the bone" in a desperate attempt to curb a rampant infection that had reoccurred three times. The next step may be amputation! Clearly these fish should not be on any market in the country.
The attached story contains the picture of a sad and disgusting striper netted from the coast of Massachusetts this past September. It is inconceivable that this fish wasn't already in the final stages of the disease during the commercial striped bass season in that state in July and August. This is just one more reason why we need to end commercial striped bass fishing. Brad Burns
