Your action is urgently requested. Please read the following broadcast to Stripers Forever members and invest in your fishing future by taking the time to HELP.
The coastal commercial fisheries in MA and RI are responsible for killing nearly 100,000 breeding age striped bass. Stripers Forever is asking you to take a few minutes to send an e-mail and letter in support of ending these destructive fisheries. The New England states often work together, so we are asking all SF members who live in New England to write their state governors. And since tourism is so vital to the whole New England economy, we are also asking non-residents who fish as tourists in these states to voice their discontent with the striped bass commercial fishery. For that matter comments from anyone are welcome and relevant since the striped bass is migratory and the actions of MA and RI affect us all.
There are four word attachments to this notice. One - Contacts for New England states - is simply a listing of the governors, speakers of the house, and senate presidents for all New England states, both e-mail and snail mail. The other three are sample letters, the first is for use by residents of the New England gamefish states of ME, NH, and CT. The second is for residents of the New England non gamefish states of MA and RI, and the third is for non New England residents to send to the governors of either MA or RI , or both.
These letters are designed to be cut and pasted into e-mails and also into word documents to print out for snail mail. You must replace all of the information that is generic – in the attachments it may appear in bold and/or color - with the proper selection for your situation. If what to do is not clear, please e-mail us with any questions that you might have at stripers@whatifnet.com . Numbers count, every letter and e-mail that we can generate is vital.
PLEASE SEND BOTH E-MAIL AND SNAIL MAIL. It will take only a few minutes to make up the letters, e-mail them, and print out three copies – governor, speaker of house, and senate president – and put them in the mail. This is an important step for our fishing future.
PLEASE change the wording as you see fit, or write an entirely different letter. We don’t want the letters to seem like cookie cutters. Different words and styles show individual support for the idea of striped bass gamefish. Also, while the letters ask New England gamefish state residents to send one to their governor, or one MA and/or RI as a tourist angler, many people who reside in New England gamefish states could easily qualify to do both. The more folks that the governors of MA and RI hear from the better.
