National Marine Fisheries Service at the urging of commercially oriented fisheries managers in North Carolina and Massachusetts is considering reopening the EEZ - area more than 3 miles from the coast - to the taking of striped bass. Stripers Forever is very opposed to this move since there is far more than enough pressure currently on striped bass, and the current prohibition on removing stripers from the EEZ provides the fish some sanctuary. The attachment is a list of public hearings that you can attend to voice your opinion of this move. Written comment is also accepted, and reading our 8/13 message and attachment will give you the information to take
that action. NMFS is not accepting e-mail comment on this issue at this time.
