2008 Fishing Survey Results
Stripers Forever members – the 2008 annual fishing survey results are in.  It may be no surprise to many of you that the overwhelming majority of anglers see the quality of the striper fishery as declining.  In many areas the fishing has dropped off so dramatically that some veteran recreational fishermen and guides fear we are on the brink of another population crash.  You can view the results at this link on our website.

There are three attachments:
  • a Survey Totals Excel spreadsheet that catalogues all responses,
  • a Commentary that explains the responses to each question,
  • a Key Comparisons document that provides graphs of several important statistics.
Don’t miss the thought provoking comments by our members on Tab 2 of the Survey Totals spreadsheet.

We now have something that even the fishery managers haven’t had: a 6 season running history of how anglers along the Atlantic coast rate the striper fishing and how they feel about several important issues involving striped bass management.  We will provide this information to the appropriate fishery managers and to the coastal state and local politicians.  The survey results will be front and center in our efforts to establish striped bass as a game fish in the states that continue to allow commercial fishing to degrade this irreplaceable fishery.

As always, please do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have about this survey or its results.  Thank you.
