Stripers ForeverMembers - SF was invited to comment at the recent annual 2007 convention of the New York State Conservation Council in Albany, NY. Board members Fred Jennings, Ph.D.. and Captain Jim White gave presentations on behalf of Stripers Forever. Representatives from the Fisherman's Conservation Association of New York and the Coastal Conservation Association also spoke in favor of striped bass game fish in NY. The meeting was
attended by a wide range of press and political representatives; it was an important meeting. We thank the NYSCC for the invitation and the chance to present our views on striped bass.
We announced last month that we have hired a policy coordinator, Mike Spinney, to bolster our efforts in Massachusetts. Mike has already met with some legislators to identify and build support for a game fish bill, and he is contacting motivated members of our Massachusetts general membership to build a core of strong volunteers. It won't surprise many of you to know that in this coastal state with the largest striped bass commercial quota - over 1,000,000 pounds of breeding age stripers - SF also has it largest membership. Clearly this is an important state to win for game fish. To pay for our policy coordinator we have been auctioning off various items donated by our members. Right now at this address on our website http://www.stripersforever.org/Info/Stripers_BBoard/I009749FD we are auctioning off a fabulous trip with renowned Maine guide, Captain Harvey Wheeler, known as "The Maven". We will be accepting bids until 9:00 PM on March 19th. Give us your support and buy a great trip to fish Maine's heralded Kennebec River.
